Get To Know: Michelle King, Office Manager & Executive Assistant

michelle-kingMichelle joined Plethora in March of 2019, as our Office Manager and Executive Assistant.

We have immediately bowed to her tremendous expertise and skill in systemizing our office and rigorously pushing for process-based procedures for everything.

She helps our top management to maintain their schedules, keeps purchasing for all departments running smoothly, and is an all-around positive addition to our team. Michelle also keeps the communication channels at Plethora clear, crisp and coordinated.

Take us through a recent workday...

I start with a daily facility walk through to try and catch any new “interesting” happenings that may have transpired during the overnight hours (and there’s always something).

On Mondays, I make sure new hire onboarding is ready to go, if I haven’t prepared  the weekend before. New hires start at 9am and I give them a tour of the Marietta facility before sitting down and going through our “tech points” and starting them on KPA training.

After that, a plethora of phone calls are incoming or I need to reply back to emails;  I touch base with numerous vendors, our management staff and employees alike.

By the end of the day I do another facility walk through and mentally prep for the next day and even the week ahead.

What do you like most about your job?

I get to work autonomously; I bob and weave in and out of projects and people collaboration.

What apps, gadgets, or tools can’t you live without?

Google search and Google Photo via mobile phone.  I can’t live without it.

What’s your workspace like?

Hot. Mess.

How do you keep track of what you have to do?

I don’t stay with one system—I use several.  Sometimes my tasks come to me right before something is due. Being able to search Plethora’s Google Drive and Gmail is major.  Slack “reminders” is currently a huge asset. I stay with a pile of sticky notes. Generally, if I write it down, I tend to remember it better and never reference back to those sticky notes.  I also send myself tasks via email. Marking the task email “read” is my way of checking off a list.

What’s your least favorite thing to do, and how do you deal with it?

Pulling a manager away from what he or she is doing to get a “quick decision”.  It’s so interruptive but also a necessary evil.

About Michelle

Where are you from?

The simple answer:  The Bay Area, Northern California

Where did you go to school?

I attended Solano Community College in Suisun, California majoring in Music & Religious Studies

What do you like to do when you aren’t working?

Watch TV, Travel and stalk my 24 year old son who lives in California!

What’s a fun fact about you that many people may not know?

I use to practice Hawaiian (Hula) dancing!

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

When a company I previously worked for was acquired by another company, my managers told me “Plan your dream career.  Where do you want to be for the next 5 years”. They helped me turn a questionable time (in all our lives) into a fun internal brainstorming process.
