Get To Know: Marc Steimer, Strategic Account Manager


Marc joined Plethora in June of 2017 and has been a consistent trusted partner for our customers ever since.

Marc comes from a manufacturing background. His father owns and operates a tooling distributor as well as a couple of tooling manufacturing businesses. Marc's deep knowledge has been extremely valuable to both Plethora, and Marc's customers. He intimately understands materials and tools, and helps ensure that his customers' orders feed through the factory in a timely and efficient way.

In his current role of Strategic Account Manager, Marc works closely with clients as a trusted, dependable manufacturing partner. He currently focuses much of his attention on the aerospace and medical-robotics industries, where he knows that Plethora's commitment to quality and precision can make a big difference for clients. 

What have you been working on lately?

I’ve been working on a couple of potential contract deals that have been taking up a lot of my time. These would be the first of their kind at Plethora, so it has been fun working through the logic of everything that needs to be involved in creating such a deal. There are so many details, logic, strategy, and other considerations, all in addition to my regular (and growing) workload, so it’s been a tough but fun journey!

What do you like most about your job?

I have two favorite parts of my job at Plethora. First and foremost is the amazing team that I’ve had the opportunity to work with through my two years. Many have come and gone, but all have left a lasting impression. The second is the broad range of customers that I get to work with, from aerospace to medical companies. I’m always involved in a project that is either directly helping people in a very immediate sense or is just plain cool.

What apps, gadgets, or tools can’t you live without?

AirPods have been life changing. I like to enjoy easy-to-watch shows while I cook (The Office, Parks and Rec, etc.) and I love that AirPods are not a huge set of wireless headphones.

What’s your workspace like?

I’m one of those people that always has a messy desk. I like to print out a lot of docs that have many details so that I can highlight and make quick notes while I’m working through a list.

How do you keep track of what you have to do?

This is something that I could improve on. I use a combination of a hand-written planner for tasks and notes that need follow-up. In addition, I use Google Calendar for events, meetings, and other really important “stuff.”

What’s your least favorite thing to do, and how do you deal with it?

Turning the occasional job away. While we continue to expand our capabilities and capacity, there are still certain manufacturing jobs out there that we cannot take on at this time. I wish we could take everything, but I find it a better service to my customers to give a quick "no" rather than a long "maybe."


About Marc:

Where are you from?

I was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, but my parents are from Pittsburgh, so I’m a Steelers fan, which my hometown friends love to hate about me. I moved to California the first week of April 2017. I drove across the country with a buddy for a week and was able to mountain bike in Sedona, hike Angel’s Landing in Zion, see part of the Grand Canyon, and more!

Where did you go to school?

I received a bachelor’s degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering at Virginia Tech.

What do you like to do when you aren’t working?

I enjoy traveling to new places, cooking, hiking, working out, the occasional movie theater night, music festivals (I met my fiancé at one in Cincinnati), and trying new restaurants.

What’s a fun fact about you that many people may not know?

I used to be able to dunk a volleyball in college and was slowly working towards a basketball, but then tore my meniscus. Note: Marc is 5'8".

What’s the best advice you ever received?

When I moved to California to be with my girlfriend, I didn’t know anyone else in San Francisco aside from one college friend. I knew that the area is super competitive and I was a little worried about finding the right job before I ate through my savings. My father gave me a few different words of advice, but what really stuck with me was that I’m only as good as my word. As I work in sales and continue to network and grow my career here, I try to always be up front and make sure that I can do what I say I will do. This advice has been great and I think has garnered trust from my customer base, as well as had an effect on my personal life.
